Date night: Monday
I'm sure you have all heard about the movie, "Borat". Now, I'm not one who gets offended easily or lets things rub me the wrong way, or reads into things. I can take entertainment for what it is, and this movie is HILARIOUS yet SOOOOO offensive! But, it's kind of like the "Blazing Saddles" of the 00's. "Blazing Saddles" was horribly offensive, but it was a movie making fun of the idiots who actually THINK and act that way. "Borat" is very, very similar. Well, except it touches (so to speak) on many of today's current events and issues.
I cannot give many details for fear of ruining it for people. The premise of the movie, is a news reporter from Kazakhstan goes to America to help determine what makes the U.S. and A. so great, so they can adopt some of our "ways". He brings his producer/friend along, and they arrange various meetings and interviews to make their documentary to take back to Kazakhstan. Once in New York City, Borat "discovers" Baywatch/Pamela Anderson, and decides that he wants to go to California to take her as his wife. But...he doesn't tell his producer that; he merely tells his producer that they can see more by going out to California. Many hilarious situations, much determination and many misunderstandings later, they both reach their destination. That's all I can say.
The movie is only about 80 minutes long, so if I say too much then the need to watch the movie will be greatly reduced. 80 minutes is just about right for this kind of movie. Any longer, and it would have been borderline "too much". Much less, and it just wouldn't have had the same affect. Each "bit" was juuuuuust long enough without overdoing it.
Let's just say that I had no idea exactly how rude and offensive this movie would actually end up being! But, for me, a person who realizes exactly what this is...it was BLEEPING hilarious!! If you are not easily offended and love rude comedy, then this movie will keep you ROLLING.
I give it a thumb's up, as well as a A.
